  • It's amazing how much difference airtightness tape/foam & considered installation makes, and equally shocking how few builders care about shit like this.

Ours were initially dumbfounded at the prospect of doing all that, but were up for giving it a go and found it satisfying in the end.

  • @Chalfie fyi primrose.co.uk have been sending me sales emails about outdoor stuff.

  • Done.
Unsure about the big (fake) plant. Needs color but it is large. We’ll see

  • Nice, looks good. Long way ahead of me. Finally commissioned my plumbing today. Only one fixing weeping. Hope to be done by mid November.

  • So so good, love the kit kat tiles and grout choice in the end.

  • I want to upgrade a wooden sash window from single to double glazing by replacing just the sashes. I'll be DIYing the installation. How much should I be paying for that?

Just had the first quote back for £1000+VAT

    (North London-ish recommendations welcome)

  • What are those connectors? I have a dislike of plastic plumbing boxed in so had it done with those fancy crimp things, that looks like something similar?

  • Kingswood joinery are around £1000 inc vat for a complete new timber sash.

  • It's the standard here, Spain. Joan guest and push fit isn't s thing. This is isoltubex Multilayer pipe (Plastic, aluminium, plastic) then crimp connectors. It's a bit fiddly to wield manual clamp as heavy but it's 100 eur and an auto one is 1000. I ran single strands of pipe from a collector so there are no joins under the floor. A lot cheaper than copper, which isn't the standard here, for anything but heating and then not always heating - my heating is copper. The rest of the piping in my house is PEXA and 20 years old and solid. I use a couple of compression fittings due to sizings or spacing.

  • Few updated pics from the work. Shelves turned out nice. My eye keeps telling me they are oddly spaced but I've measured and it's even.

Need to clear coat the doors, pick a colour, then order done fluted glass for the upper panels, which came out with all bit of persuasion from the jigsaw.

    New friedland doorbell is lovely.

  • Looks high quality stuff, wonder if it or something similar will make it over here.

  • the size of that rad is delightful! can't wait to get some beefy / non sludge filled ones in our place soon

  • We had ours upgraded by Wandsworth Sash Windows for £1k per window all in. Fitted and VAT included. So that does seem a little high.

  • not even the biggest one we have in the house, haha. I think that honour goes to one of the living room ones, which is 700x1200 @11k BTU

  • We have some 700x1600 specced for when we have our ASHP put in next year. Not done a full tech survey but some of them look to be huge, can't wait.

  • I am glad that it wasn't me having to attach them to the wall tbh

  • Phwoarr.

Loving this new phase in my life where I mainly get off on pics of other people's heating systems on the internet. Deffo more relaxing than sniffing ketamine off the floor of a squat-juice coated warehouse in Ponders End.

  • Tbf ket is pretty relaxing, until it erm... Isn't.

  • It's probably not on people's radar for a 40K bathroom, but any recommendations for a quadrant shower screen. Our loft bathroom as a 900x800 corner tray and two doors that open out, but they meet badly and leak quite a bit. I have replaced seals etc but it's just a shit design.

I've found ones with sliding doors which I assume would work better, but wanted to see if anyone had experience or a good leak free suggestion.

Something like this with one sliding door seems the best idea to eliminate leaks during showering.

  • You can get magneitc seals

I've seen them in hotels and they seem to work but I guess your doors would need to be near meeting anyway for them to work.

  • Thanks, could be a decent stop gap as my inlaws are staying for 3 weeks so I can't fix it until after that anyway. The doors do have some type of magnetic seal anyway, I think the water is getting out the bottom mainly, as the doors open in and out. There is a upside down V shaped seal along the bottom of the door but it never sits right.

  • I am glad that it wasn't me having to attach them to the wall tbh

You could use the chaps who fitted the radiator in my new kitchen. This is their second attempt, having been bollocked for fucking it up the first time.

  • My word.

Our guys weren't happy with one of their fixes so we have this until they come back and fit feet. Which is fair enough
