Have a picture of this? My Red/Quarq PM has stopped working properly
-
• #10278
Actually, anyone know if there’s anywhere repairing Quarq PM’s? It’s an old Red 22 one and while it’s reading peaks, it drops off quite quickly and is massively under-reading

bike in shop getting new groupset installed. Can get you a pic next week

You've hit 40 years old AICMFP

I have bought a bike with this power meter.
Previous owner said they couldn’t get it to pair.
I can’t see any evidence of the magnet being mounted. I assume this is my first port of call?

I’d try changing the battery
-
• #10283
Battery swap and in some units, reverse the battery briefly to reset it, could help.
I don't know what magnet you're talking about
-
• #10284
Apparently changed not too long ago (and I’m currently being defeated by the battery cover, lol).

It’s quite an old model.

The instruction manual shows the magnet install. Later models that used a magnet could even have a firmware update that negated the need for it.

Left myself very open to this one

Righto. Not seen that before.

I recently picked up a new pair for a good price and have been charging them for ages… the light is meant to show solid green when fully charged but it’s still flashing slow and steady green despite the app showing them as 100%. Have you any experience of this?

Edit ^ the lights just turned off so assume all good

I just upgraded to the Garmin Rally RS200, so far so good. Ridden about 400km on them so far, no dropouts and accuracy seems in line with my trainer. Turns out I have left leg imbalance, I thought my right would be stronger but seems it’s the left. Annoying thing is a lot of the Garmin pedalling dynamics is not recorded by Wahoo computers.
I have had a Power2max NGeco for about 4 years and loved this but wanted to be able to use it on all my bikes. Selling it here if anyone is interested https://www.lfgss.com/conversations/397891/#comment17455265

Any recommendations for NDS power meters? Looking to get one for my winter bike which has a Sram Apex crankset (172.5). Don't think 4iii have one that is compatible and just discovered Stages has gone out of business
-
• #10293
I'm pretty sure that Giant bicycles bought Stages fairly recently. With that behind them, personally I wouldn't worry too much about buying a Stages NDS unit.
-
• #10294
I see the deal just went through the other day

Been talked about for 6 months but as I've got some Stages kit I'm quite pleased to see it has finally happened.

Quarq do a spindle PM, but I think it's for rival/force

• #10296
Oh interesting, thanks for that. Hopefully they'll start restocking soon then

I just received a Favero replacement notice:
Dear Customer,
Based on our recent analysis, we've identified a defect in a small
number of Assioma road units produced between 2021/02 and 2022/09. In
very rare cases, this defect can cause the spindle to break.Unfortunately, your SN_R: XXXXXXX is among the affected units. As a
precautionary measure, we are offering you a free replacement to
ensure your continued satisfaction. While this is not a recall and we are under no legal obligation to
take any action (as confirmed by a leading independent certification
entity) we are taking this step to uphold our commitment to providing
the highest standards of customer service. We encourage you to stop using the potentially affected pedal(s) and
take advantage of this free, quick, and easy replacement. There’s no
need to return the pedal(s); simply dispose of it/them. The
replacement will be delivered to your home promptly. So what are the chances that they will brick the old ones via the app as part of the replacement programme? 100%?
Edit: aswering my own question from the Favero forums: Yes, pedals will be deactivated. Still extremely happy with having replacement bits around and spare pedals for the bike on the turbo.
Still great service from them, and these pedals gave me absolutely zero trouble over the past few years. On one hand, my next powermeter purchase will be from them for sure, on the other, I am worried about them, as a standup business with durable products and great customer service...

0% if you never connect them to something that could update their firmware.
More than 0% chance of needing dental insurance though, if spindles are snapping.
-
• #10299
I think part of the return process is connecting the pedals to the app and processing it there. I have excellent dental insurance, but my risk-reward analysis consists of two data points:
-Issue not big enough for them to do / have to do a proper recall with stop-ride notification
-It would see over 1000W about twice a year, and I weight 67kg -
• #10300
Maybe it's precautionary because they don't know if it was manufacturing fault or maybe they don't have to but it's legal waffle and they're trying to cover their asses if someone (else) possibly snaps one.
If they're offering a free replacement, I'd take it and if they brick the "possibly fatal death pedals of doom" then I'd take it on the chin (or not, as the case may be).
Even a 67kg person standing on a pedal that breaks could veer into oncoming traffic. You don't have to have hippy hero
wattsweight to kill yourself on a bike.
If it’s not the bearings, check that the silver bit of the pedal body isn’t separating from the black bit. It is a known warranty issue with vector 3 and I just had a pair replaced.
