• I just received a Favero replacement notice:

    Dear Customer,

Based on our recent analysis, we've identified a defect in a small
number of Assioma road units produced between 2021/02 and 2022/09. In
very rare cases, this defect can cause the spindle to break.

Unfortunately, your SN_R: XXXXXXX is among the affected units. As a
precautionary measure, we are offering you a free replacement to
    ensure your continued satisfaction.

While this is not a recall and we are under no legal obligation to
take any action (as confirmed by a leading independent certification
entity) we are taking this step to uphold our commitment to providing
the highest standards of customer service.

We encourage you to stop using the potentially affected pedal(s) and
take advantage of this free, quick, and easy replacement. There’s no
need to return the pedal(s); simply dispose of it/them. The
replacement will be delivered to your home promptly.

So what are the chances that they will brick the old ones via the app as part of the replacement programme? 100%?

Edit: aswering my own question from the Favero forums: Yes, pedals will be deactivated. Still extremely happy with having replacement bits around and spare pedals for the bike on the turbo.

Still great service from them, and these pedals gave me absolutely zero trouble over the past few years. On one hand, my next powermeter purchase will be from them for sure, on the other, I am worried about them, as a standup business with durable products and great customer service...

  • 0% if you never connect them to something that could update their firmware.

More than 0% chance of needing dental insurance though, if spindles are snapping.
