Road fixed / fixed road

  • This is starting to turn into the ‘what ACTUALLY is a gravel bike’ discussion of the 2020s

No, it's the CTT "What is a road bike?" discussion of 2024🙂

  • 😂😂
Oh yeah, sorry, I’m thinking of the groad chat

  • Definitely a dad bike! Your name makes sense now

  • My condolences for having cantis

  • Ahh nice! Glad it’s still on the island.

I don’t know that much other than the shop is in drogheda now, ran by the son or grandson of the framebuilder. Haven’t made the trip yet but I must before it’s too late

  • Tubeless and a powdercoat for my road fixed. By a mile my favourite bike…

    …and with mudguards.

  • Certainly better than the Peloton 👀

  • lol. For the record I do not and nor have I ever owned a Peloton. There were about 30 of them unused in a British Heart Foundation charity shop for 50p each. They’re nice Camelbak bottles so I live with the mild shame.

  • That's the kind of defensive chat I'd expect from a Peloton owner :) I should know, I have one.

Jokes aside that's a nice bike, time for some mudguards though!

  • Got the mudguards on just in time for three days of no rain and the roads to dry again.

  • Great opportunity to get working on those flaps then! All three of them (Spotter™)

  • Three? Now I’m intrigued.
I’m going to order some bolts and bits today as I needed some spacers from Accu anyway. Thinking two 3mm torx bolts per flap should do it…..

  • One at the back to keep your friends dry
One at the front to keep your feet and front of chain set dry
One in the middle (front of rear guard just behind BB) to keep your feet and chain set even dryer

  • It is not a joke. This really works

  • Didn’t think it was - might give it a go on the Stayer first, as there’s a big old gap between where the guard ends and BB begins. Case in point - a lot of crud on the chainstays and crank.

  • I know, been keeping me dry and my drivetrain working longer for over a decade since I saw the light (previous MTBer who didn’t care about getting mucky now turned Mudguard police)

  • Can’t quite visualise it, piccies please?
I realise this belongs to the mudguards thread but hey ho, I’m not a stickler.

  • This is the best I have available

  • Noted, I see it now. Basically as I pictured it, just a flap on both ends!!! Simple but brilliant!!! V1 is happening now.

  • Pretty much! You can get fancy with more shaping around the inside of the chain stay to protect the chain set more bit its diminishing returns, you’re basically just trying to get the water to drip/spray further down so it’s past the chainset when it leaves the guard/flap

  • Yeah I think I shall just make another version of my flap design on the Stayer with just one bolt hole instead of the two. That should do it!!!! It ought to be pretty stable too with the additional lateral support of the chainstays.
Should be ready to test by tomorrow!!
