but a hole (to screw the mudguard bolts) in frame surely makes it lighter?

They're usually threaded inserts and presumably have to be bonded in or something so that adds weight. Also ruins aero. Say no to mudguards.

It actually looks pretty clear now. Would be hilarious if I just rode it. It's not like undercarriage carnage hasn't plagued my long distance life already.
