I was reading the subtitles on KB's over lunch. Amazing how much worse it is when you're reading it. You've got a bit more time to think and then realise it's meaningless.
Her whole "I don't shy away from the truth" line is hilarious when absolutely no one with any juice in that conference can articulate in public the reasons for their defeat, either at a high level or a granular one.
They ran out of ideas and used culture wars as their last resort, and now they're trying to use culture wars to resuscitate the party.
Anyone know what the mechanics are for changing the voting system? Surely they can't go on having to pander to an ever dwindling proportion of the electorate who are so totally out of step with the majority.

Ha!
I more meant how the Tories elect their party leader.

Isn’t that all controlled by the 1922 committee?
-
• #9132
Yes I expect it is, so up to MPs.
I recall it was brought in at the request of William Hague who wanted further endorsement to bolster his position after he won the contest that followed the 1997 election.

Time - in twenty years the current membership will all be dead.

How does she still have a fucking job at the BBC?

Remind me who the head of the BBC is?

I don't believe this was a mistake, notes were sent knowingly and this apology/cancellation of the interview was because it was going to come out. A bit tinfoil hat? Yes, but Kuenssberg has so much Tory adjacent baggage that it's certainly a realistic possibility.
Will the BBC re-assign to another journalist? So far, no. Which in itself is shameful.

Or someone decided having Boris promote his book in prime time was a fundamentally terrible idea and they needed to find a way to cancel it without cancelling it. Hence no other BBC journo being asked to pick it up.
-
• #9139
It might be a bit tinfoil hat, but you're right that her behaviour has been boggling enough for it not to be a crazy thought.
-
• #9140
The theory I saw which sounded plausible was that they wanted to bin the interview because they were scared that he might say something or make a revelation that could have a major impact on the leadership election.

he might say something or make a revelation that could have a major impact on the leadership election.
If that's what he wants to do he has so many other outlets that would give him space and time to do just that.
I think its more likely that Kuenssberg sent him the notes and mistakenly copied in a member of her team who she know would out her.

Idk it seems like a pretty easy mistake to make, especially with the @ function in outlook.
I remember as a temp once ccing the head of L&D into some flat hunting advice to a colleague.
-
• #9143
Could be this and easy to throw Laura K under the puss as she has minimal journalistic integrity so may as well mix in a little incompetence
-
• #9144
I have it on pretty good authority that there is no conspiracy. Kuenssberg just stuffed up.
-
• #9145
And the Beeb can't get another journo to do it because the Bozza likely wouldn't speak to anyone else.

Ah yes, that was hugely entertaining when that came in and people started cc'ing the whole firm distribution list as it was something you'd often @
-
• #9148
I assumed she always sent him the notes in advance.
-
• #9149
It’s that the conspiracy idea isn’t totally implausible given who is involved.
But it’s ok, Count Binface has said that Laura K can interview him instead….
