Today, eBay ends sellers' fees ! How do they make any money then ???
-
• #68406
"excludes motors and business sellers", guessing from advertising and those two.
They must have done some analysis.

buyers are set to face a charge. How it will be applied is yet to be determined though it will take effect early next year, the company said.
Its UK boss told Sky News the fee would be "small"
Apparently did this last year on German eBay and it’s worked wonders for active users
Probably just turn around and add 5%-8% fee on top of purchase price in line with their competitors
-
• #68408
They’ll be taking a protection fee from buyers probably more along the lines of the way Vinted operates.

May have misread it but will we now been charged to withdraw funds from Ebay into bank acc's
-
• #68411
Further research shows in a few weeks funds from sales no longer will go to your bank account, but to your 'ebay balance account' until you withdraw it. Presumably this means they'll be earning lots of interest on that pot of everyone's funds too.

Cheeky greedy scum etc lol
Also says you can use your eBay balance to pay for items?
Certified bank now?
-
• #68413
I stopped using ebay a while ago after an annoying misdelivery saga, where I had confirmation from Royal Mail the item wasn't delivered to my house but ebay wouldn't refund. Bloody love a bargain but they really seem to be swirling the drain now

I get incredible customer service from eBay with a direct line to customer service. Probably have spent too much on eBay.
-
• #68415
its no different to how it used to work with Paypal or now with Vinted don't really see the issue tbh
-
• #68416
It was more poking fun at the potential regulatory rebrand
I think the fee thing is smart, the eBay balance seems questionable given they now have complete control of your finances.
Before you could authorise a payment or pay through PayPal/ withdraw to bank account. Now they operate an ‘open’ account where you can use your eBay balance for purchases, paying fees and withdrawing. Which seems like they would need some sort of financial regulation / accreditation. -

How did you come to this conclusion based on the information in the e-mails? I genuinely can’t find anything that would in any way suggest this would be the case
-
• #68418
Not sure if it was different based on your account type or something, but whenever I made sales it would always go to my “e-bay balance” and then it would automatically get sent/withdrawn to my bank account daily/weekly/monthly based on my preferences, or I could just withdraw it at any time if I wanted to. (Granted minimum withdraw time would basically be “daily” aka 24hours). Never got charged any kind of fee for that.

I thought I saw it on a pop up on the ebay app earlier ,however properly reading the comms it looks like I got it wrong.

-
• #68422
Isn't it only personal sellers?
-
• #68423
Interesting, I don't know anything about the regulatory side of things but does make me think of the millions in an account supposedly from unused Oyster cards, what happens to the money in personal Ebay accounts if left unspent?
-
• #68424
Nice of this seller to let you know exactly how much they're ripping you off for:
