True and he's pretty great at engineering solutions too, more so than probably gets appreciated by just making bikes.
He engineered a recumbent shifting solution where a shifter moved a cassette side to side and a stationary chain tensioner took up the slack in place of a derailleur, maintaining a perfectly straight chain line in all gears.

And he also started out working as an engineer before getting drawn further into the world of bikes. Not that he's not still an engineer. After our car needed some expensive work I've actually been pondering a velomobile based on Rob's explorations in that direction.
