  • ...looks like he's regular had run-ins with an orangutan.

  • I was going to write about his fucking feet! But thought it was overly harsh.

  • Is everyone buying this ‘it was stupid’ line?

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mNvp90KWu_4

He’s been pushing the breaks further and further out. This was a logical extension. Strade was 80k? Why not try 100.

  • If he’d lost, then it would’ve been stupid.

I think his tactical awareness is under-estimated, despite the fact that he’s good enough to make up for poor tactical choices with his strength. I think he knew his team wasn’t strong enough to control the race until the final 50 kms, and everyone expected him to attack to overcome that, but he still went earlier than they were expecting and caught them all out.

  • I think he knew his team wasn’t strong enough

How dare you speak ill of Tratnik?

  • Oh yeah, forgot he's off to Bora

  • What’s the official forum ranking of the top cycling events from a rider status perspective?

    TDF
    World Championship
    Giro
    RVV
    Roubaix
    Olympic road race
    Vuelta
    Milan San Remo
    LBL
    Strada Bianci
    Il Lombardi
    Tdf stage win
    Giro stage
    Spring classic (various)
    Vuelta stage
    ?

  • Depends on the type of rider…too many variables.

I’m sure Pedersen would put the world champs at the top.

I’d put the Olympic events much lower down, below all the monuments and Strade, but probably above a grand tour stage win.

  • GT Stage will vary too, e.g. Alpe D'Huez summit finish versus a token flat sprint stage in week 2 between the mountain stages

Edit although it'd be rider specific too based on their own strengths.

  • Strade Bianchi is half the race Lombardy is, so please let's not over elevate it. From a one day perspective there are six races that a rider's career is judged on; the five monuments and the world championsip road race.

And, as @snoops says, the prestige of a palmares is very much dependent on the type of rider they are. Van der Poel has a much more storied palmares than Van Aert, despite the latter being a much more rounded rider, because he has won three of the five monuments and the worlds.

  • But can he do it on a wet day in Huddersfield?

  • I think MvdP would love that.

  • Let’s not over elevate WVA, he’s a super-duper domestique. But not in the same league as MvdP.

  • I agree, but he can win on terrain that MVDP can't be arsed with.

  • Paris-Roubaix
    ...
    ...
    ...
    TDF GC
    ...
    ...
    ...
    Everything else

Oh, from a rider perspective... who cares... they're billboards paid to suffer for our pleasure. :-*

    1. Unbound Gravel
    2. Tro Bro Leon
    3. Amstel gold
  • What’s the official forum ranking of the top cycling events from a rider status perspective?

    Hard Day in January
    Bridges Ride
    Muddy Hell
    LFGSS Track Day
    Death TT
    Circle Line Ride
    Drag Sprints
    Easts TT
    New Oxford Street Ride

  • New Oxford st ride is number 1

  • I don't have time to rank all the WT and Pro Conti races but MSR is at the very bottom, even Scheldeprijs is a better watch (because it's shorter)

  • In conspiracy news, the race jury (that should probably have DQ'd MvDP) report for yesterday has still not been published.

  • Official list:
    London to Brighton
    Any Wiggle Sportive
Ride to the shops for more beer
    Literally anyone's commute

  • Ride London 100 pls

    As won by Blythey

  • Scheldeprijs

this is the worst take ever. You'd rather watch a boring sprint stage vs reliably the most exciting 20 minutes of the season?
