  • If not too late, I went Spyre cable disk and really like it. Dual piston caliper rather than one fixed like the BB7s make a load of difference. I have small hands and find the Brompton brake leavers really comfortable but YMMV on that. Never felt under braked and (for me) it feels pretty progressive especially vs BB7s which I have on a couple of other bikes, but not as progressive as the hopes on my cargo bike.

  • Push come to shove, would you choose the cable over hope hydro?

    I guess with hydro as you said you need a complete different braking lever to suit your hands.

  • For a Brompton and the type of riding I do on it (ie commuting on roads of varying quality) yes for sure. Im still not 100% convinced that constant folding and unfolding of the bike won’t damage the hydraulic cables and I’d much rather have slightly damaged cables and housing that’ll get me home than a micro hole in a hydraulic line and no brakes. Appreciate its likely a moot point as they use hydraulics everywhere now but it would still bother me a little.
