This sounds more realistic than the 'loin gold standard (but it is useful to know what good looks like:).

Ah nice, was looking at that one actually. Looks so dated but is the right capacity and not too pricey.
Any idea what the "keep warm" temp is?
-
• #2129
No idea what temp it is but it is fairly hot rather than warm
-
• #2130
Would be great to incubate tempeh but I think all the settings are too hot
-
• #2131
quite like the idea of crust / tahdig setting for bibimbap

what’s everyone using as a day-to-day oven cleaner?
Half a lemon and a good amount of bicarb. Use the lemon like a scourer and it cuts through everything, then just a soft sponge with warm water to mop up - good for deep clean as well as weekly.

I think they have to be pretty hot right, given rice is a massive food poisoning risk if not?

We've got a Tefal multi cook. It's good, was about £100, can do a bunch of stuff I never use.

Rinse aid
I thought this wasn’t really required with decent tabs?
-
• #2136
Honestly for £30 I'd say a steam cleaner is a good investment - great for glass on ovens, shower screens, windows etc.
-
• #2137
Which model have you got?
-
• #2139
Nice; can this clean the inside of an oven, including the top with the elements etc?
-
• #2140
Yes - you will still need to clean the oven but it makes it much less effort. I’ve never bothered to use the cleaning function on ours as keep on top of it with this and a brush
-
• #2141
When I had a steam cleaner it left everything a bit damp. Do you find that's the case or are you wiping down as well?
-
• #2142
I’ve never bothered to use the cleaning function
Madness!
The joy of wiping the ashes up with a damp cloth is something everyone should experience.

Need to read the manual on my new oven but the old one required removal of the shelves/trays and all the side support structures. At a year in its probably due a pyro clean.
-
• #2144
Yes, normally all racks and ladders etc need to be removed - they can't take the temperature required for pyrolosis to occur without getting significantly damaged
-
• #2145
Surely a pyrolytic cleaning cycle releases shitloads of fine particulates into your house? Or do ovens have special particulate filters to prevent this?
-
• #2146
Some pyro ovens have a catalytic converter in the cavity vent to clean the emissions before they enter the cooling duct and are expelled into the kitchen.
Some manufacturers (e.g Miele) have a very specific Pyro process which has low enough emissions to be able to pass compliance, which means they don't have a filter.
There are stringent guidelines about pyrolytic products from a safety and compliance testing point of view to be able to be sold - we refer to it as a "canary test" at work.
You'll also find that the user guide for some products insist on you running a pyro with a window open etc

Thanks, very helpful post.
How would I go about checking which type of filter/catalyst my Bosch oven employs? I’ve been too terrified of using the pyro feature thus far…
-
• #2148
Neff say 'no kids and pets in the room, ensure adequate ventilation, and avoid lingering', I expect your Bosch says the same. I just turn on the extractor, leave and hope it doesn't burn everything down.
Very effective tho, shame it doesn't work on the grills pans etc...

I've an old cast iron pan that's crying out for a full pyrolytic clean

Anyone have any ideas on this -

Also al I’m looking for a not very deep (50cm max) but wide and tall (US style) fridge freezer. I can’t seem to find any that are less deep than normal, I just get narrow ones returned not shallow ones…. Do they exist?
Thanks, makes sense.
On this tip, what’s everyone using as a day-to-day oven cleaner? For maintenance cleans, not deep cleaning. Don’t think I can justify a steam cleaner a la @Tenderloin …
