good for 300m just by putting oil in it... Why doesn't someone just do that in the factory?
They did. Bell and Ross had one called the Hydromax. Rated to 11,100 metres but only 39 mm. https://uniquewatchguide.com/bell-and-ross-hydromax-dive-watch/ I've got one sitting in a drawer. Battery changing has to be done at the factory, because of the oil. I think they adapted it from a Sinn. Sinn have had at least 2 oil filled dive watches, including the UX and the Hydro.

Looks like one of those shit New York re-cases.
There's a triple Rolex movement in a custom flava-flav style necklace somewhere online. Gash but somehow "worth" $100k

Ta, it was always the plan to keep whichever of the SLA017 and SJE093 I liked more, and the SJE won - but not without a lot of hand-wringing. It's a lovely watch, the SLA.
(Btw, I say papes, it has the manual and retailer-stamped warranty card but not the original bill of sale / receipt.)

Okay so a new Renata battery and it has held time over 12 hours. Ticks over. One of the two spring bars has decided to stay in the hole needs picking or drilling out. Very scratched crystal, clearly well-loved.
Who wants it and what is it worth like this?
Offering on here before I ebay it.

Out of curiosity, why do you prefer the SLA..? Size ?

Yeah it’s mostly that I prefer the more vintage size of the SJE. But I really like the size of the SLA too, it’s not big, it’s just more modern.
Each has their pros and cons. The SLA has the nicer movement and a nicer crown I think. The SJE has a fractionally cleaner dial and case. But the differences are tiny really, that’s why I can’t justify keeping both when there are other things I want to add to the collection.

No movement issues so far, and hand-picked the lug hole clear.
Just need to decide if I get a new crystal fitted or sell it as-is.

Does the crystal sit proud of the bezel? I’ve had good results sanding in a figure of 8 on wet&dry paper of increasing fine grit. IIRC all the way to 8000.
If you’re interested I can go into more detail pics etc -

It’s slightly proud by fractions of mm.
Yea fine grit can work well. I was tempted to do it that way, just whether I put the effort in.
The mere-mortal watch collection keeps growing and I need to rationalise a bit.
I think I’d sooner take a £20-posted type offer for it.

Once I worked out how to AC it, it’s ticking over nicely. Must say that Casio were lazy.
The year will only go from 1980 to 2020. Livid. Here I am, living in 1984.
