  • Netanyahu giving another massive fuck you to the US. Biden seems to have an unlimited capacity for taking his shit

  • Yeah don't get it. Especially as they've just given them a load more 'aid'.

  • I saw this being explained as not wanting to undermine an already iffy election prospect in November. Have to assume Netenyahu has figured this out and has decided to commit as many war crimes tactical security incursions as possible before then

  • Not a good day to be a Van Gogh sunflower painting again

  • Is this the sentencing of the JSO folks?

caused £10,000 worth of damage to the gold-coloured frame

Blimey, frame repairers are well paid these days.

Staff at the gallery were worried the soup may have dripped through the protective glass

The glass worked. The staff worry unnecessarily and need to relax a bit.

  • Can we sentence every motorist that close passes me as if they did knock me off? It certainly worries me.

  • 20 months for £10k damage to a picture frame.

WTF is a picture frame worth £28k?

  • It's such an important frame and integral part of the painting that the National Gallery don't show it or mention it on the painting listing.

  • Maybe it's on loan from the National Frame Gallery.

  • TBF, it's not substantially different than the extreme end of sentencing given to people involved in the Riots a couple of months ago, hoping that the extreme sentence will deter others (I expect it will be as unsuccessful here as those sentences will prove to be in the long term, even if they were undeniably impactful at the time)

  • It's FAFO sentencing. Will it deter others?

  • I meant that it's happened again. It seems to have been in response to the sentencing. Same painting again and another one. Not sure how much they endeared themselves to the public the last time, so this is an interesting move if it is to work. Presumably they want as long a sentence as possible to make their point?

  • In museum world the frames are seen as an important object related to the painting as they have been displayed together for so long/part of the objects history. so the frame has cultural value despite not being part of the artwork itself.

  • Tbf they are working at a Blockbuster exhibition that helps sustain a culture sector on its knees due to austerity and covid. The anxiety would be if they had to cancel or close the exhibition, manage refunds and comms to booked tickets etc.

And would you be chill if part of your job was to look after a priceless work of art and that happened in front of you? Not sure I’d react calmly despite knowing about the glass.

[not having a go btw, just worked in museum sector for 15yrs so feel for the staff team]

  • My work gets attacked all the time (the darker corners of the Internet trying all the attacks). I suppose I'm sort of worried that the mitigations I've put in are rubbish and reveal my incompetence.

  • I wasn't aware three more people had booked their 20-24 month stay at HM's pleasure.

  • Incredibly brave people. I think the point they are trying to make gets a little lost in all the noise, but they are just trying to wake everyone up to the realities of climate change and the fact that we aren't doing enough to mitigate the disastrous effects that are going to happen in the coming years.

  • At least we'll be able to look at an undamaged 'Sunflowers' from our flooded cities.

  • I spilled some humous on the cover of the Radio Times recently and now I'm facing a ten stretch. You couldn't make it up.

  • Incredibly brave people

Tankman in Tiananmen Square levels of bravery...

  • Pretty much precludes him then, harbinger of the Tory win over Corbyn via brexit

  • That's the problem for me. They are so busy being seen there is no message.

So the action becomes a thing of itself and therefore just a criminal activity

  • Enablers concerned at outcome of enabling....

    Muppets.

  • Israel cannot win a victory in Lebanon.

They cannot occupy the state and all they can do, by killing loads of innocents, especially children, is create more hatred and inspire more fighters to take them on at some future date.
