Idk how a Helios rides, but a couple of things I've noticed:
- Helios is shorter than a thorn kiddy back (235-240cm vs 211cm).
- lots of Thorn's have multiple pedal drillings in the cranks to help with shorter legs. No idea if that matters with a 7yo.
- Thorns look like they have clearance for bigger tyres.
- pannier set up on the Helioses (Helioi?) I've seen tends to be neater. But then lots of Thorns don't look like the racks have been installed very considerately - 700c on a 26", etc. so I think you could improve on that.
Also there's a tandem thread if you want some informed opinions rather than someone who's been daydreaming solutions for 5yrs.

Thanks again, as someone who spends a lot of time daydreaming solutions, I'm very grateful for the material!
IKWYM about racks on thorn tandems, that one with the swytch looks unusable.
I'll head back to the tandem thread for more inspiration...
It's more about the space than the money. A car could sit outside so would actually be easier. I don't want a car though as they are boring and slow, and we already have one we hardly use apart from holidays!
In other news my wife says she doesn't want anything, she's happy to walk / bus the journeys that she does with daughter, until she is ready to ride own bike everywhere in another year.
I reckon it might take a bit longer until daughter is bossing it on the Uxbridge Road, but it means I don't have to take into account what my wife wants - although I wouldn't be surprised if she ends up using it once I have it.
So criteria:
Needs to be able to take 1 child + shopping / panniers.
I think I want electric.
Fun to ride
Which is the nicest to ride? I'd have thought Thorn kiddyback has to be more fun than the Helios or a longtail. Maybe that's the best option, either with that Swytch kit or, and sort out electrics separately...
