How the hell has she done this?!
I think the pictures tell the story - the chain seems to have been pulled out of position during a multiple shift to a much smaller cog, and then the missing part of the cage got ripped out. Somewhat surprising though, maybe there was a manufacturing defect in the cage, at the lower point of the missing bit?

Wife managed to snap the rear plate on a new 105 rear mech after 2 rides on a new bike. Bike appeared to be set up properly, gears shifted fine when I rode with her on the first ride, she doesn’t think anything went in the chain like a stick. How the hell has she done this?!
New mech fitted for now as plate is out of stock so hopefully it’s now sorted
