  • Beautiful, my dad always wanted one and he instilled a love of them in me. He never got one, he didn't get a car until he retired and went back to Spain. A 2004 Seat Ibiza, which he still has but is a bit too old to drive safely. If only there was a modern version of the DS I could rent, I'd take him for a spin.

  • Whereas is this roughly? I am guessing the somewhere in the Highlands

  • Near the end of the Dava way. The chap was visiting his old uni chum I just lucked out time wise.

  • Can ask if there are contacts from the Citroen/ds owners club.

  • Am now thinking twice. Car needs full exhaust system £1k for stainless and at least a few hundred for steel. 5 new Michelin xvs tyres= £750 , probably major service and lots of extras (split pipes etc) say £500 . Transport £300 - at least £2.5k then the purchase price on top…. Not really looking viable the more I think about it 🤔

  • Look you don't have to fit xvs, if anything don't as modern tread patterns are better.

Exhaust, let's look at the shapes, if it can be made from parts.

The suspension and brakes need a lhm refresh at the least, hydracage at the worst. Then spheres, pleadies have that sorted and changing is easy. The suspension units can they be rebuilt? The hydraulic pipes tho steel can be remade and Sykes picavant make the ends moulding.

Do these need an octopus pipe like the bx, as I can't remember. Tho did repair rubber pipes with joints and clips as they are low pressure.

Major service is something you are going to do anyway in a new to you car.

You are talking yourself out of this. Will you be doing the work or paying someone?

At least there isn't and welding.

  • The yellow lights just look right on a period french car.

  • Yep I’ve had to talk myself out of it unfortunately (not just my decision!😥)…

  • That GS is lovely though. I've been searching for a GS estate down here for a project. Found a blue pallas for $1000 aud but it needs double that in hours to get it running. They are getting rare!

There's also this which is tempting, however I have no garage to put it in.

  • I have a new-ish honda civic tourer, and a big dog who doesn't currently like the car. As such, I am doing loads of training to desensitize the idiot to the boot, which means I am opening and closing the car 2 or 3 times a day. Said car had a dead battery last week which needed replacing. I am only just seeing a possible link. Is just unlocking and locking the car so frequently without starting it likely to be causing bad battery drain?

  • It’ll cause some, but not a great deal. I’d suspect age of battery rather than unlocking the doors three times per day, unless it’s been absolutely ages since you drove it last.

  • Is it a powered boot or manual? If it’s powered then maybe…

  • No idea on age of battery as recent car purchase, but could be up to 8 years. Been doing infrequent very short (<10 mins) trips with a couple of ~hour long ones in the past 6 months.

I now have a new battery so I guess I'll find out if the drain is significant when I next go to start it, but helpful to hear probably unlikely to be doing much by unlocking regularly....

  • manual boot

  • That looks lovely! Rare colour combo too and a good price. 👌

  • No idea on age of battery as recent car purchase, but could be up to 8 years

Yes. It was probably the battery. Every second hand car I have ever purchased got a new battery from day 1 of ownership. And a check of the battery cables too. Useful lesson when driving cars that were not made in the decade I owned them.

  • Check there isn't a drain, some time central locking motors don't return to the correct position. That can cause a drain.

  • Went to the shop to get the blow off valve, thought it best to check it would fit. It didn't fit.

Back to the drawing board! It's going in to the mechanic tomorrow to see if we can solve this intermittent CEL. Fingers crossed. Choo-choos will have to wait!

  • Which BOV were you going to get, GFB? I think the one on the legacy mounts straight onto a mount on the intercooler

  • Yeah, the GFB Respons, sadly not enough clearance. I'm gonna need something with a lower profile, the GFB is exceptionally chonky!

  • Clearance to what? What does it interfere with?

  • Nois riddle.

Had the front brake pads changed (pads only). Now when I turn to the right, at a speed greater than 30kph, there is a rubbing noise, drony mid pitch. It doesn't happen when I turn left, nor if I drive slowly and the noise doesn't change in volume or pitch with speed.
There is nothing I can see rubbing, no cables that could move. So I'm quite confused.

My best guess is a bend disc protector, but not sure that could cause it. Also I now need to find a new garage which is annoying.

    Any guesses?

  • The ignition coil pack, not enough space between that and the intercooler for it to slot in. Turbosmart Dual Port looks shorter but the Car Mods Australia bloke reckoned that wouldn't fit either.

Apparently this is a bit of a known issue for JDM Foresters and GFB fitment. 🤷‍♂️

  • Off to pick up our new car this evening. BMW 528i. Jap import, 2011, 3L, N52 engine, looking forward to it.

  • Nice car! I imported a 2011 523i M sport with the 2.5 engine from Singapore. Great cars and brilliant engine. I used to have a 130i.
