Geoffrey Butler track frame

  • Too many projects, so gotta let this one go.

Geoffrey Butler 531 track frame and forks, almost certainly '70s, going by the details. It has been resprayed sometime in the distant past.

I've used it as a fixed road for the past year or so. It's a comfortable and predictable ride - they'd nailed track geometry by the '70s. It's just a touch smaller than ideal for me.

    Measurements:
    Seat tube 56.5 cm c-t (54.5 cm c-c)
    Top tube 55.5 cm c-c
    Head tube 13.4 cm
Needs 38mm of stack on the headset.

    Features:
    Wraparound seat stays
    Rounded stay ends
    Round fork blades
    Interesting lugs
Drilled for a recessed front brake

It will take 28mm tyres - comfortably on the front, tight on the back (you'll probably need the wheel a few mm back).

There are a few scrapes to the paint. Nothing out of the ordinary. No dents that I could spot.

The rear bridge has been drilled, but off centre, unfortunately. Doesn't look to have had a rear brake in it since the respray.

  • Photos here of when I had it built up, plus a price bump to get things moving. Threads are nice and ready for a rebuild.

  • Bargain for a 531 track frame

  • Nobody building fixed-gear or single-speed bikes any more, it seems, leastways in London

  • True, they're more niche nowadays

  • Moved elsewhere.

  • Will be interested to hear if it sells 'elsewhere'

  • If not I'll turn it into a winter fixed

  • Crud Guards helpful for that esp with tight clearance and no guard eyes

  • I can definitely fit a standard guard and 28s on the front. May even manage on the rear, too. Would've preferred a longer wheelbase for a winter fixed, but I think it'd work out

  • Is this still for sale?

  • Yes. I've listed elsewhere. PM me and I'll give you details.
