Clean the filter about once a month, most foodstuff breaks down if you leave it.
Wipe down the horrendous gunk that gets trapped in the door seal due to a terrible design every few months when it looks really manky.
Do a wash with a cleaner thing every three or four months unless I've washed something grubby in there like the barbecue.
This sounds more realistic than the 'loin gold standard (but it is useful to know what good looks like:).
