Sure. But both are big changes, especially with a partner and/or family. And they joined expecting 2 days in the office (Fwiw in this case they are planning to move).
Just making the point that sometimes other events unexpectedly impact things. E.g. I've wfh more than I'm meant to recently as my OH has been ill.
I am sure that all the other people referenced in anecdotes are arseholes.
Counter point, sometimes people don't expect to have quite so many issues.
I know someone who lives up near Leeds and has office days in Canary Wharf. It should be a straightforward short bus to the station + 2hrs ish train + 30m tube. Obviously a long journey, but should theoretically be 3hrs door to door, which is fine for the 2 days they originally started on as they'd stay overnight. However, for a long time they had a massive road works project on the first leg, which turned their 15m bus into some undeterminable amount of time and then the trains kept fucking up. Then 2 days switched to 3.
Obviously they are saving a lot of money / getting amazing vfm living in the Leeds burbs v. the South East or London. But it's still shit comminiting for 5hrs each way just so you can be late anyway.
