  • Salter make a lot of scales. I think buying things from brands that make a lot of them is always a good idea.

If you want to get super keen maybe look at scientific equipment.

  • Who makes decent robust digital kitchen scales?

+1 on Salter, we have some with a black anodised aluminium case, the top has got scratched to shit and stained by various spillages but they refuse to die.

    Currently 14 years young.

  • +2 for salter

  • Thirded.

  • I want an angled-in extractor hood, eg the one photo’d or this

I don’t really know what to search for - I would much prefer a tall skinny one that doesn’t stick out much from the wall even at the top, vs the more common upside down T shaped one eg

    Any suggestions much appreciated

  • Forum favourite American style freezer? Not fussed with an ice/water dispenser, budget about £1k?

  • Not sure if forum fave but I absolutely love my Haier, the double (french?) door one.

Double width fridge is great for putting things + it keeps things fresh for stupid amounts of time

  • +1 for haier, we had one in our last place it was an absolute beast. Way cheaper than anything else comparable as well.

  • Haier again. The drawer freezers are an absolute game changer. No bending, nothing hidden.

  • Stayed at my mother in-laws last month and she'd organised a demonstration kobold vacuum cleaners. Mrs ordered their super mega ultra pack, which has a, vacuum, steamer, window cleaner, robot vac, even has a table vacuum.

Don't get me wrong the demo was sick but it's a comically absurd amount of money to spend on a hoover.

  • When you get pyramid-schemed by family...

  • Might upgrade our tiny one-button rice cooker for a slightly larger more complicated model. Mainly so I can make black garlic.

Any reccos for a ~1lt, not too big, does some interesting stuff as well as cook rice, don’t just say zojirushi?

  • How often do people clean their dishwasher? Both using the cleaning cycle and a filter out + wipe down of all seals.

  • Filter wipe probably every couple of weeks and a hot wash similar amount of time?

  • Clean the filter once a week. Make sure rinse aid always topped up.
    Cleaning wash once a month.
Full tear down and clean every 3m or so.
    Use dishwasher daily

  • Hmmm... Sounds like I need to up my game.

  • I got one of those beldray steam cleaners and electric scrubbing brush for these sorts of things - great for shower, oven, washing machine

  • I like my Yum Asia Sakura a lot, not quite Zojirushi money.

  • Wish they didn't all look like motorbike helmets

  • Clean the filter about once a month, most foodstuff breaks down if you leave it.

Wipe down the horrendous gunk that gets trapped in the door seal due to a terrible design every few months when it looks really manky.

Do a wash with a cleaner thing every three or four months unless I've washed something grubby in there like the barbecue.

  • Talking of dishwashers, is it safe to put oven grilles in there?

  • If they fit, why not. You mean just the chromed rack and/or enamel tray, right? They have survived temperatures much higher already and the detergent in a dishwasher isn't as harsh as oven cleaner?

  • We have this yum Asia one - has been really good for the past few years - used 3 or 4 times a week and more in winter for making porridge

  • I don't have any recommendation but I would try to get one with a ceramic bowl and not
a teflon one. The one on mine started flaking off a bit and it too almost a year till they came
back in stock on Yum Asia.
