Help — Adding spacers to a stem adapter?

Posted on
  • Have a very ugly quill stem adapter on a current Muddyfox Pathfinder MTB (image below). Am looking to go full Stridsland and convert this into a build with a bmx stem and a set of the Anchor Bars I have.

Issue is im 6'4" so need the height of the quill stem adapter to be raised, but hate the look of them. Ideally i'd buy a quill stem adapter like this and run a load of spacers on it to achieve a similar look to this

    a) is this even doable?
    b) what size spacers would I need? 1" ? like this?
    c) do i need a different headset altogether?

I know it's probably a dumb idea and totally unnecessary, but i'm into the freak build.

  • d) is there a better / alternative way of achieving this look?

  • This can work and I’ve done it before. I think I used a profile designs quill adapter for the shape, and it then perhaps regular 1 1/8 (?) spacers which fitted over ok, though not perfectly, when everything was tightened down. The problem I found was that the quill adapters like profile or nitto, which don’t have that annoying curved lip, don’t have as much stack height if I remember correctly. So I ended up just buying a Velo orange 31.8 quill stem which worked and looked much better (pic). I think it would be ideal for what you’re after tbh if you’re needing a 31.8 stem
