  • Second hand trainer innit. Will order one.

Unless any Kickr owners have one lying around they can spare.

  • Looking at that picture, is it not a reversible piece? In one way for 130mm and reversed for 135, so possibly the one you already have can be used?

I presume the R and M are for road and mountain

  • Think wahoo are pretty good at sending out these sorts of gubbins for free fyi

  • Ahhh - thanks. Will try them.

  • I don’t understand what that bit does.

There’s a silver insert that spaces the non-drive side drop out away from the turbo according to the vid I’ve just watched on YouTube.

  • Don't watch videos, Wahoo change the inserts they provided on a whim so chances that yours is the same as the video are quite slim. If the insert is flippable, it will just pull out of the trainer, no need to unscrew anything.

  • Yeah - it’s a flippable insert. I haven’t collected the trainer yet so I can’t quite get my head around it but it seems like it will be reasonably straightforward.

  • What model Neo? If it's the one I have, there's an issue with it rubbing on disc brake calipers and you can contact them and they'll post out a whole new axle kit that includes a single spacer you need to push the stays further out.

Oh, KICKR, soz. I have KICKR bits too but I use them.

  • Definitely just need to flip that piece round. I just did exactly that on a friend's kickr whose bike kept coming loose while riding- turned out he'd been bending his (carbon) stays in to make a 135 rear end fit 130. Glad I figured it out before he broke his frame. Flipping the pictured piece round sorted it out instantly.

  • I do wonder how some people make it through their day still alive.

"I need to make some 2-stroke... I know, I'll blend it in the kitchen while making my coffee on a gas hob"

  • Is the Tacx Neo the only direct drive trainer that doesn't need a power supply (and takes thru axle)?

  • It is (if you only survey the two DD trainers I own). I actually left it unplugged the other day by accident and didn't even realise until afterwards.

  • Is there any software out there that just let you 'free cycle'? Essentially, I'd like to set my turbo up so I could use it for CrossFit-esque workouts.

For example, setting the resistance to 300 watts, and when I get on and start pedaling a timer pops up that shows me things like duration and calories.

  • GoldenCheetah.

Don't think it does calories explicitly though.

  • That's great, ta. As long as it has some sort of metric I can plan around, time and watts is plenty, then I can make it work. Looks complex though!

  • The basic software that comes with the trainer usually does that?

  • It can be, but the just ride mode (slope mode, iirc) is relatively easy to find.

As @chez_jay says, the native apps usually have something - I think my tacx software does, but doesn't run on Linux which is why I never use it.

  • I'll download Golden Cheetah tomorrow and have a play. Cheers all.

  • If you have a Wahoo, their app does that. Tacx Neos let you just jump on and they'll up resistance to some level.

I've also programmed Computrainers to do this but I presume it unlikely you're talking about a CT unit.

Trainerroad - can you run it in demo mode or something without subscribing?

  • I cant remember where I posted this but Garmin Connect lets you make workouts of whatever target you want, power/HR/time/distance/cadence. Its quite intuitive via their app and you can send it to a Garmin device to connect to your turbo.

  • Do you mean Wahoo SYSTM? I've got that, but never seen that functionality in it.

    Another person has mentioned Trainerroad.

Thank fuck I'm currently working my notice period and have an empty schedule. A day playing with Turbo software it is.

  • Their phone app from a few year ago definitely had a free-ride option. But, I use Trainerroad all the time. It's the best for what I want, which is basically it's training plans and variety of workouts. I don't want Zwift nonsense, I just want a power curve to follow and some useful numbers.

  • This is bang on, cheers @amey that's done exactly what I need. Using it through my mobile, I set a duration of 100 calories, a primary target of 300w and I can just climb on and off every 20 calories and it'll pause the workout.

Done the same for distance as well. Set a duration of 10k, a primary target of 300w and again, can just climb on and off every 1km. Basement crossfit workouts, come at me.

  • I've got a crap old "dumb" trainer that I wanna set up again (with a view to upgrading if I can get into a routine with using it), but can't be arsed with Trainerroad/Zwift or paying for anything. I don't have a laptop but have the relevent sensors, a Wahoo ELEMNT and obvs I have a phone - is there anything I can use for free which will make me a few workouts I can follow on my phone?
