I went early on but tbh the whole issue with them suing the 'frog' bakery in Camberwell spoke volumes of the team there, so I wouldn't go back. That said it sort of fit the brief.

For inauthentic tacos and not fancy in terms of small plates and natural wine, you could catch a bus up to stoke Newington high street and go to the place called TA-KO. It used to be called Victory Mansion and was a prohibition style cocktail bar, I think they kept the decor but prioritised the food over the bar setup.

Has anyone had sushi from Hase-Ya in Ealing? supposed to be amazing

I’m coming to London soon and I’d like a big cote de boeuf to share with my Dad when I visit.
Where’s a great steak place in north or east that might do this? -
• #2131
Cafe du Marche, although it is probably be a more central than east.

Grazie!

Ibai if during the week
Brat, hill & Szrok, brutto -
• #2134
I had steak at brutto on Friday and whilst it was lovely I think very hard to beat hawksmoor for the actual steak itself (and the cooking of the steak) and whilst maybe viewed as slightly basic now I still think it might be the best. Similarly hill & szrok was lovely and far 'cooler' (and less full of expense accounts heroes) the steak didn't come close to hawksmoor for me.
Would also add quality chop house but don't think it beats hawksmoor for a big delicious steak.

QCH is a good shout as is Hawksmoor.
I think Hawksmoor is great but I find the quality and flavour of the meat at the other places nicer. Brutto is aiming for that Tuscan style beef.
I’m going back to Ibai for my birthday - it’s the best place to eat steak in London for me.
H&S is cool and in east plus a bit special. Their fries are also exceptional -

But hawksmoor shouldn’t be sniffed at. They know what they do and do it well!

went for a meal at Quality Chop House recently.
food and service were good, but the venue is looking a bit scruffy and our table (a booth type thing, yes i detest booths) was very cramped to the point of being uncomfortable. it did not make for a particularly relaxing meal.

Ibai looks incredible, it's on the list. Even everyone's least favourite doughy Instagram reviewer can't put me off: https://www.instagram.com/reel/C_Qkuc1or8z/?igsh=MWR4cDB5ZmRicmFtcQ==

It’s bloody good!

The benches have always been that way though - some of the most uncomfortable restaurant seats in London!
-
• #2141
yes - true!
Ibai and Brutto both look awesome; will be making plans to visit both but probably not until 2025.

• #2142
Ibai I would say for me is a tier above Brutto but not open weekends.

Went to Supawan on Cally Road, the other week. Outstanding food and a lovely place to sit and eat.
Last night, we were at In Horto and that was genuinely the full package: excellent (generous) food, brilliant wine list, amazing service, and again a lovely place to sit and eat.
Both highly recommended.

I was in Brixton for the first time in ages last night, we went to RapChar, small independent, chef owner of from Kingston, the red snapper dish to share was top notch.
We then sat outside in the warm night at Hootanany around the corner listening to a great lady DJ til the early hours.

I am heading to Berlin soon. Any recommendations on places to eat? I eat pretty much anything so don’t mind trying local delicacies (curry wurst?) as well as more classic cuisine.

Gazzo (pizza). Steel Vintage Bikes Cafe. Konnopke's Imbiss (currywurst, some say the originators). BRLO Brwhouse (Food is vegetarian led with meat optional. Beer is decent). If you like beer then Beirerei (say hi to Cihan) and the Muted Horn are excellent.

Any recommendations for early Sunday evening food along the Commercial Road before. Troxy gig? Not so keen on fried chicken.

That's great and noted for use. Thanks very much.

Lahore / Tayyabs / Needoo a bit further along always good

Thanks for the ideas. In fact we headed to Mile End and had a good pizza.
If you could get a table the Devonshire would be great.
Mountain would be the other hot ticket more towards Soho.
Both are killer.
The Ritz would be a little further but more celebratory.
Kiln would be more lowkey but still one of the best places to eat in London
Still think J Sheekey has a special place and has that old school charm + super close.
