  • I reckon the M3 bolts would work fine - they will surely be strong enough for this? - but you'd need to ditch the PDW-supplied M5 retaining 'nuts' on the inside face of the mudguard, and use an M3 nut/retainer instead.

    I think the main issue is that you need to remove some material from the existing go pro mount so that there is a 'tunnel' for the PDW arm to go through (ie you need to drill a hole in the go pro mount where the brand name is on your pic). Someone like MagCad would could probably 3d print a go pro mount with a recess easily enough, but they might not have enough interest to warrant it.

  • Ah, a black Strael with silver bits, like my Secan. That's exactly how I set up the spacers on the SKS guards. Drilling the bolt holes is a bore but the fixing is not a stress riser in thermoplastic. Thank you for the link!

    I've done one off work with cat3bits, it was fun to produce something but it would cost in the region £25-35 for one. Perhaps if 2-3 others were interested it might be worth it but I'm sure I can fashion/bodge/hack a solution for free.

    The gloss black S-Works -12 stem is a decent but also expensive.

    It's a bit heavier than an S-Works, but looks similar. the logos are easy to remove with the Stanley blade and a bit of acetone.

  • Cheap but seem to do the job. Gloss black -17 stems don't seem to exist otherwise.
    Strength likely not an issue as a good bit heavier than the S-Works stem.
    Bolt's came pre-greased.
    There were some sharp/raised edges internally, at the steerer interface, so took a file to those.

    Pulled the trigger on an s-works stem minutes before you posted but found a 'decent' price, though nothing on £6.50 and they have a pretty decent external finish! On the upside, I think the -12 will suit the bike a little more than -17.

  • For the misaligned CS bridge/washer issue, I'd use cup+cone/CS washers from V-brake pads in that situation. They'll bridge the gap nicely.

    Speaking of the PDWs, top tip, worked nicely.

    S-Works stem is a good,, suits a steel frame due to its lack of girth.

    Shouldn't get this exited but do like an excuse for an Accu order.

    Guards are looking flushhh and Exposure light mount fitted. Fiddly but satifying. Absolutely not ignoring all the bigger jobs around the garage...

  • Just ordered the newly released Shimano Direct Driver hanger insert from Fairlight. It's supposed to improve the precision of gearshifts, and ease rear-wheel access (the latter would be very welcome). At £45 I really hope so!

    Be interesting to hear what you think, am always tinkering and takine the wheels on/off. Somewhat annoyingly, I already have a spare hanger.

  • Didn't quite reach the point of carving mudguards into my food but it came close... on our commute today, my partner admited that is does now look very slick, and that's all that matters :D

  • I have 700C and 650B wheels so ease of wheel change will be a bonus. I have only one cassette and one set of discs so have to change them over too
