    Makes total sense to me. Christianity, and Christian names were imposed by slavers and if you have that history you would want to totally reject it and replace it with something else. You can argue with the logic of joining the Nation of Islam but the symbolism is powerful.

    That's what I'm arguing. I can perfectly well understand the rejection of Europeanisation and Christianity, but Islamic imperial entities seem to have used the identical process (conquer, enslave, pacify by compelled conversion) in Africa as Western Europe used in Africa and the Americas, and the Russian Empire used in Siberia and the far East.
