I assume there is a minimum thickness aluminium has to be, but as an eg I remember having some with "teeth" cutouts on the inside. Why bother? Why not just make them the thinnest thickness to start?
Even more so with carbon ones.
Surely the stem clamp is what does the majority of the work stopping your stem walking down or squashing your headset? I'd expect the spacers to be fairly nominal.
