• Tubeless is great for micro punctures. The bigger the puncture the less effective it is, but it’s no less effective than a tube would’ve been.

Tubed or tubeless, if a plug and sealant won’t fix it, you need to tyre boot it and put a tube in.

To make sure you can always get home, you still need to carry a tube and a tyre boot when riding tubeless.

  • Nice one, but then what’s the long term fix, tyre boot then sealant and re inflate?

    Or new tyre?

  • it depends how large the hole is, you can try plugs like these:

  • Nice one,

I’m basically fucked, turns out they’re tubular not tubeless and I’ve been riding on the road. So looks like a new wheels and tyres job and sell these ones. Any suggestions for wheel / tyre replacements, currently got ‘Reynolds assault t’ and I like the look of em but not practical.

  • Not hunt cos they dont last very long hence why they are cheap . Reynolds are good i prefare hope but their is a lot of choice out there now.

  • I’ve never run tubeless before and I don’t know how many miles these Schwalbe Pro Ones have done but I’m guess this cracking signals it needs replacing???

  • Struggling running low pressures on some 27.5 x 1.9" GravelKings on Prime 650B wheels.

They'll hold 35+PSI forever, ridden or just sitting around, but this is far too high for the size of tyres and I'd really like to run them at 23-25PSI. However, whenever I try to drop the pressure down and ride them, they end up flat within a few KM and I have to pump them back up. Seems to happen on both the front and back.

They were very baggy and a right pain to seat so I suspect they're not quite on correctly but I've taken them off to fit extra rim tape, hit them with multiple airshots and tried pumping them up to 70PSI (tyres say max 50PSI so I'm a bit sacred of going any higher) and still having issues.

Anything else to try before giving up on them?

  • Looks more like age related cracking rather than wear, but I wouldn’t expect much more than 2000 miles from them.

  • I’ve got a Schwalbe Pro One 28mm like that, won’t stay up and extra rim tape didn’t work. It’s now on the pile waiting to be used tubed or when I can persevere with it, maybe a tighter rim combo.

  • Do you mean from now or from new? It’s academic anyway because I* have replaced it.

    *A chap I paid.

  • Have any OKO sealant users had success injecting it through the valve? It instantly clogged my syringe / AliExpress Fillmore combo.

I started with a 1:1 dilution with water then tried again with a little extra water added but had no luck with either.

  • I put it in through a regular valve with the presta core removed using a Stans syringe.

  • Thanks, I think I’ll get some more conventional valves and replace these at some point (when I can be bothered to take the tyres off).

I can’t really see the advantage of the Fillmores over a valve with a removable core, I should have kept it simple.

  • The Fillmores work well with regular sealant but the OKO has more chunky bits in it.

  • I’ve revised my 1:1 dilution. Now more water closer to 2:1.

    I break the bead.

  • I admit I don't know how sealants work exactly but doesn't more water prevent it from drying
    and sealing?

  • The particles are suspended in the fluid, then they dry and seal cuts when they make contact with the outside air. AFAICT

  • But if there is more water will that not just spray out carrying the particles with it? I have now
taken off a few tyres and cleaned the sealant out and it's not really an instant reaction like
    super glue.

  • Is the extra dilution for ease of installation or for better sealing?

  • I was finding that over time the sealant would coagulate, so wanted to delay that action. OKO changes viscosity over time, rather than drying out at the same viscosity, which is how Orange Seal seems to dry out for me.

  • The water just transports the particles to the opening. I’ve added more water to extend the intervals between replenishing; it doesn’t seem to make it less effective.

  • ‘and rode another 100k’ - omg! after doing 100k off road I’m hanging so much the thought of dropping something and having to go back, having a gps issue, or getting a normal puncture fills me with thoughts like ‘perhaps if i just curl up in this bush someone will rescue me or i might just quietly die and that not be so bad’

  • ps. i’m starting to rethink my use of latex-y sealant like the stans race because, although it works great, it is too aggressively sticky and dries between rides and makes me feel even worse about not getting out and riding/how it has been months since I looked at that bike (that I still have managed to buy new bits for in the meantime 🙄).
Instead I have some oko but will this be good for road as (and forgive me for not scrutinising the thread) I bought based on recommendations for mountain bike

  • Put my winter tyre/ wheel combo on my bike this morning, 28mm rubino pros. Topped up with Stans sealant, that I haven’t used before.

6 miles in, sealant pissing everywhere, kept calm, kept riding but it took an age to seal, probably 45-60 seconds.
