Just planted this in old galvanised water tanks to stop the dreaded runner spread

Does anyone want some purple hollyhock seeds?
Happy to post to a couple of people for a forum donation.

We've got a water tank I'd love to try and remove and use.
Did you add any additional lining or anything?

When we had JKW at the last flat, the guy treating it named some roses as being potentially more damaging to structures than JKW. Shit me up about having roses in the ground next to the house.

• #13656
Iβll take some please!

JKW?

We've got shady border we're looking to fill out with more foliage. Does anyone have any hardy / garden ferns, liriope, grass, sedge or other shade dwellers they want to propogate / sell on?

Also, we've had a viburnum really hit hard with thrips this year. Anyone know the best way to deal with thrips on an evergreen?

That makes me nervous about my rambling rose being so close to my garage
-
• #13663
He could have been bullshitting me, or it could be certain roses. It was just enough to shit me up and not want them near my house, just in case. Although, it could have also been that he was trying to calm me down (knotweed can send you into an anxiety spiral - glad to be rid of it).

In all honesty though if itβs fairly well rooted and stable, would you want to remove it? Roots die leaving a void.
-
• #13665
No, cleaned out, holes in the base , lots of leftover rubble in the bottom for drainage. You could use a root barrier but thatβs more for planting in the ground i think

I love the aesthetic of bamboo

I love the aesthetic of bamboo
until you realise..
its fast growth rate, certain Bamboos can cause homeowners problems due to their ability to break through tarmac, grow beneath patios/decking/paving, potentially cross boundaries leading to conflict with neighbours, and even its potential ability for the roots to spread into homes through cracks or weak mortar
Then pops up through your neighbours floor boards

Hence the steel tanksπ

Extracting it from the loft in one piece can be a challenge
-
• #13670
Do a loft conversion, itβs easy then.

We had two that are now awaiting re-use in the garden.

You may want to wait until youβre redecorating the halls and landings, since youβll end up with gouges and grooves from the removal.

The only tank that should be used for bamboo is a Centurion, with the optional flamethrower attachment.
-
• #13674
Iβd never plant it in soil. But in a pot it looks nice.

I helped the neighbours across the road, uproot a 6ft wide area of mature bamboo. The roots were not fun at all.
Not sure whether they succeeded to transplant it out back to upset a different neighbour. Awful stuff.
Would it be appealing to fan it out and let it grow. So keep it where it is.
Looks well established and healthy.
