I know very little about cars, but I popped into my mate's garage today and he's got one of these, and apparently it's quite fast

I need better mates.
Is that a yellow VW Thing next to the Jag?

I’m seeing a Ford Rs2000 x pack. As well as the Jag, a tvr and a karman ghia

And I'm seeing a lot of very shiny, very expensive cars being wasted on a rich persons ego trip.

Ignore, can see Chaley already figured it out

I'm thinking about importing a replacement for my Outback. Looking at the Volvo XC70 T5 AWD, they only really offered this model in Japan. Volvo 5 cyclinder engines are reliable as far as I'm aware...... any reason I shouldn't do it?

Who says what? ;)

Any one else remember Hardcastle and McCormack?

The radio and sat nav will be in Japanese. Maybe a few button labels too.
Odd men, as it will be men, will know how rare the car is so will be jealous of you, or want to talk to you about it at in opportune moments.

Is it a new build?

Which generation? Link?

I've seen a couple of import 2014/15 V60 T5s with huge spec from Japan pop up, had a bit of a dig & the T5 engines from that era (in the V60 anyway) seemed to be the 4 cylinder 2.0l, with the Polestar 3.0 T6 version being the other (rarer) option. Not sure what drivetrain the XC70 t5 came with but there seemed a common theme with above average oil consumption over 70k-ish, so to make sure it had a bulletproof history.
Tempting though with the reduced tax on imports & decent upfront cost

I'm fairly sure the T5 XC70 is 2.5 5cyl.

Aye, isn't that the 5 in T5?

Odd men, as it will be men
A great summary of all things.

What year? I always thought that too, but after looking up the imported v60 T5 they were inline 4s.
Xc70 2015 T5 models were 2.0, the T6 had the inline 6 & the earlier models were either n/a 3.2 or the 3.0 T6.
Always possible different territories had completely different specs though

I miss typed old, but still right. Tho I have had old ladies come up to me when I was driving the MK1 cortina estate.

Was the v60 an odd ball for using the 4 instead of the 5. Then I wasn't looking at the AWD I was looking at cheap

MST have low volume production approval on Mk1 and Mk2 Escort replicas. They are very nice, but eye wateringly expensive even compared to genuine Ford RSs.

I’ve just booked the Golf in for its MOT and they said it’ll fail. It’s got a blow on the flexible pipe and so needs a new cat and half the exhaust replacing. They said it would be, genuine VW part <£700, pattern part <£500 or the little place across the road can cut out the pipe and replace it for £120. That’s that decided :) I fucking hate cars, not all cars.
Yeah all prodrive built, including the Legacy before the Impreza
