Just spent another 30 mins on the phone with HMRC.
I'm still disputing the tax that I apparently owe, but am having to pay it back anyway. I have filed a complaint (which I made a couple of months ago), which is still at level one whatever the feck that means. In the meantime I've also been receiving calls from HMRC (genuine number), that when I pick up it just gives me an automated message saying they have been unable to connect me to an agent.
Anyway on the call I brought up that a few years back I was in dispute with them about them believing I was paid 14 times in a financial year, when I had obviously only been paid 12 times (they reckoned I got paid twice in July and twice in December that year). He said he would go back and check that, he then told me that there is nothing in the system about that issue except for the letter I sent them to challenge it. The only thing they have in their record is that it was about company car tax. So it looks like I'm a fucking crazy person who sent them a letter about something that didn't fucking happen, apart from me paying extra back the following year via adjusted tax code.
