There’s very few places at Herne Hill where you get up to a high speed, so having a gear that helps you accelerate out of the (many) corners is usually better, in my experience at least.
Can never remember what gear I run though! Will check the bike later and see what I ran last time.

Rode the first MAAP race at HH today.
Loads of fun! Despite no training and not being that fit, I didn't come last and had a good time..

Having fun is basically what it's about. I rode the Vets race, was slightly over geared with a 17 tooth sprocket, might swap it out for a 18 tooth one for next week.
