  • These ^ are the early sketches. I think I will do another cut away seat tube and some different dropouts as I can't afford SRAM stuff anyways I want to do a very special direct mount Shimano dropout

  • I found some more recent sketches. The idea is to do fully integrated cable routing through bars > stem > steerer > downtube > BB> chainstays.

To achieve this I am going to attempt having stem and steerer as a one piece and the legs clamp onto the steerer and headset preload happens from the bottom of the fork crown.

  • Tell me more about that down tube, Columbus max kind of vibe

  • No no bigger. Mega tube

  • I cannot figure out how to preload the fork from the bottom up other than using some kind of star nut on the bottom. Can't wait to see what yoou come up with

  • That would be amazing and one confident bike fit ;)
    (Clamp on fork legs?
    Split splined steerer?)

  • It's a replica of my current road bike so it will be great. Worst case build new forks and skip the whole integrated nonsense in the future

  • I know a man that can build you a new fork, oh yeah, that’s you. thumb gif

  • Yeah exactly. Should be safe enough

  • Yet to solder the rings in place. But I am very pleased with this long boy.

  • Very exciting!!!
Now I feel compelled to start saving money for a future road bike 😅

  • You can get 10% on your second purchase no problem <3

  • I quite like Rob English's take on that stem / steerer / fork design so it will be nice seeing yours with added integration. Otherwise:

    Worst case build truss forks

    👍

  • fully integrated cable routing

Have you thought about doing one like Talbot (iirc) with conductive paint and electronic gears?

  • Yes. It is actually funny how often my thinking and solutions end up a bit like English. We are obviously working with the same medium and his work must be stored subconsciously in my brain, but I am not actively trying to rip him off.
The wishbone came about in 2016 through conversations with Stayer Cycles for example. But now I am doing weird stem thingy and wishbones like there's no tomorrow 🤷

  • Mmm the aesthetic didn't appeal to me I must say.
What I really wanted to do is just use wireless. But it's just stupid money and totally out of reach for bottle cage salesman.

  • Early morning slam

  • wow :D

  • Is the stem/steerer arrangement like the Pace RC100?

  • I can't find a photo that explains how that might work but it does look similar

  • The photo and link to the RC100 manual might help? If it is similar then there’s your inspo rather than Rob English

  • Yes. That looks about right. Thanks. Even similar Flouro Yellow I was thinking about

  • Yeah it annoying how they just decided to do that and completely undermine my future business plans.

I do wonder why they went with those forks and not steel forks. Seem a bit meh

  • I haven't built a bike since the spring.
So I am taking my time and trying to nail the process and sort of streamline things as it seems I have a bit of build cue now.

Because it looks like I'll be making more frames I also decided that it is time to build a rolling stand for my fixture.
