  • What is the standard process for fresh manure? Dump it on the compost pile for the winter to mature? Dig it straight in to the soil? I was told it's too acidic to go straight on as a mulch, so I would be wary of mixing it in to any active beds or am I being too cautious?

  • Fresh = straight from.the horses bum? I'd not stick that on direct in big amounts.

Well rotted = should be able to dig it in directly. I layer cardboard & pile manure on top then l just leave it for the worms to party, no dig style.

  • Our neighbour is a dairy farmer so it would be cow flavour. It would be whatever comes out of the big shit pit under the barn so I guess a mix of waste and straw. Maybe the best is to make piles where summer veg comes out and a decent distance from the winter veg staying in?
Maybe whatever mix he sprays over his fields is adequately rotted if there's rules against run-off.
