  • After our little boy arrived, my daughter and I have done less and less singletrack. Cycling with the kids often is a break for my wife to do some work or relax. And this mean the little fella has had to come a long. His cycling isn't really ready for singletrack and its just harder to get out the door with two kids (both strongly opnionated about things) plus my energy levels are just lower since I started as self employed and obviously kid number two also drains me... You might know how it is.

Anyways, yesterday we did 5km with the trailer and it was sooo much fun. My daughter lost a little bit of the courage she used to have but I think we can regain that over winter and by getting her on bigger wheels next season.
She has a habit of sitting on her seat on rocky/rooty terrain. We are working on this but I am considering making her a soft tail...

Left field idea, but what about a soft tail with a rigid fork? Then put a 2.5" tyre on the front. A bit like mullet 69er bikes when 29" first came out.

Isn't the problem you're trying to solve for bodyweight on the rear rather than contact patch on the front?

  • This is exactly what I am talking about. Soft tail but using material properties to create flex the rear triangle like a fork flexes

  • Had a proper look at this drawing. This is very doable
