  • Yep that makes sense. I’ll drill some holes in it.

And put some soil in there

  • Picked some more popcorn

  • Adding fallen street tree leaves might have worked for mine, I got a bunch of worms now.

Nothing last year and now I got lots. 8 got a bee in their bonnet on a rainy night and escaped through the holes to get fresh air.

Worms can also travel to your bin and set up, but of course that's only works with ones with lots of holes.

  • It looks like it. And yes you can usually prune back quite hard. But I'm fairly sure there's a specific method - it's one of those remove a 3rd or fruits from the new stems sort of things - so best to search.

Whatever it is, it's not hard as I used to prune my folks black current bushes as a kid.

  • Name that invader

  • Wait… is it an avocado?!

  • Stranger things have happened.

This huge bugger (nearly 5ft already) appeared uninvited a month or two ago and has just opened up today.

Typically it’s facing the fence and not the garden!

  • Ha, I guess it’s critters getting stuff off the compost heap and burying it? This just happens to be in a great spot full of sun. Shame it’s nearly autumn.

  • We seedbombed the garden but its timing lends itself to birbs, maybe the pigeons that frequent the feeders.

  • We've had potatoes, squashes and spring onions appear in our garden thanks to the squirrels

  • Ours just plant limes, walnuts and the occasional egg.

  • Looks like it. If you mean, will it survive? ours have always come back following a good prune. Sure you can be a bit more considered if you're aiming for fruit, but otherwise I say go for it.

  • Loads of bulb bargains in Lidl this week

  • But be warned that you need space to plant them. And do actually have to plant them. 😁

  • We have a couple of squashes growing (surviving, i should say, out of 8 squashes, 20 chillis, 8 tomatoes, and 8 sunflowers), but have no idea what they are. Thoughts?

  • Bulbs going in this weekend and then will sprinkle this down. Then see what’s occurring.

What’s the score with mowing. Surely this seed will all blow away once I mow the lawn?

  • Best bet is to scarify, sow then cover with sand or compost so the seeds are covered.

  • Does anyone have any tall bamboos that I might be able to snag a cutting of? I want a big pot of it for the patio to block out a neighbour's window. I have some swarf varieties but they're not going to cut it. I found a nice one at the garden centre but it was £120(!!!) which I can't bring myself to pay for something that will grow like a weed in weeks from a tiny cutting.

  • Yeah I can get you one or two - never tried taking cuttings from it but assume it will be fine!

I'm in SE23 although I'm away later this week so might not be immediate for pickup

  • This is maybe 10' high? It's in EN5 and I'll be near Liverpool Street station a couple of times this week if either of those work.

  • Thanks both, but @andyfallsoff is really close so that's my best bet. No rush - whenever works for you. I can ride over to collect when you're free. That'd be really handy!

  • Cool - drop me a message next week, if that works and we can arrange a time.

  • Moved into an old house that needs lots of love. We're into it. At the bottom of the long list is the landscaping.... Anyway can I move this ill-placed rose bush? Or will it croak? Probably croak.

  • You're better off taking lots of cuttings.
