So, in the past couple of years I've gone from having zero Kleins to four of them - Quantum, Rascal, Quantum Race and now a Quantum Pro.
The Pro is causing various headaches. Firstly, the 1 1/16 steerer is a PITA, but that seems to have been resolved with a 27.2/28.6 seatpost shim (thanks to a helpful post by somebody on another forum).
The next (and slightly more complex) issue is that the headset bearings need changing. I've managed to find replacements from kleinspainted.com, but removal/fitting seems to require special tools. I have found a couple of kits on ebay, but they seem to have fewer components (mainly the long tubes) than in the technical manual I have found, which is confusing. Am I missing something, or are the kits? Has anybody improvised and changed the headset with homemade tools? I would usually look to do things this way, but don't want to risk damaging a near mint condition frame!

it seems to be rather quiet here, but going to try my luck anyway...
i’m having a bit of trouble with the press fit bottom bracket on my quantum. now had two different reputable lbss install new bearings. both sets of bearings have been the same type as the original ones were, by FAG and SKF. the first set was fine for a while but eventually started screeching and i thought it had sucked mud/gravel in somehow. was recommended to have the bearings replaced despite them being pretty new.
got the bike back from another shop today and the screeching started right away. tried to spin the cranks at home and the bottom bracket is giving the same screeching and even clearly resisting movement.
is there some kind of a trick to make it spin freely and silently? could (over)tightening the cranks have damaged the bearings? let me know your ideas before i start seriously contemplating facing the bb shell down to 68mm and installing the phil wood press fit bb...

Hi Klein fans, I have a Quantum Race with glow in the dark paint and wondering where you think the best place to sell might be?
Looking for c.£380.
Here's the blurb:
Rare Klein Quantum Race road bike, size 54 in silver and glow in the dark paint. Very few of these in the UK so a rare opportunity to pick one up.
On-board, it has a Dura Ace 7700 group set, Chris King headset, Look Carbon Forks, Thompson Elite seat post, Shimano hubs on RC30 rims. Ritchey bars and stem. Frame is oversized aluminium with internal cable routing and very stiff in the sprints. Top of the range bike when it was produced circa 2000. There is some cosmetic scratches on shifters which is consistent with a bike that is of this vintage.
Lovely classic bike this in a rare colour with top components that have stood the test of time.
CONDITION - PLEASE READ
Bike has a ding in the rear seat stay following an unsuccessful attempted theft. Bike has been assessed by a shop mechanic who said it was fine to ride and has been ridden for several years since. See pictures for close up images of the seat stay. Sold as seen.
