28-32c road tyres that go easily on rim

Posted on
  • hey, have used gp5k so far, but they're hard to get on and off the rim with one hand (adaptive rider). going on a multi-day ride without shops around so would need tyres that i can fix punctures with. rims are mavic open pro ust, which should be fine with 'looser' tyres.

prefer something that rides similarly than gp5k and don't puncture immediately. marathon plus etc would be too touringy. used is preferred for additional ease of installation. thanks!

  • These look decent for the price

Not going to be as fast as GP5000 but I've found Vittoria okay for size

  • Not sure about their road tyres but I always use Specialized MTB tyres on my Stans rims for this reason.

Also, those Mavic rims can make things difficult. I ended up swapping some out for Hunt rims which were a lot easier with the same tyres.

In the old days you could get any tyre on an Open Pro with no worries but tubeless ready rims have kind of killed that.

  • Something super supple, like a Corsa? Or I’ve always found Schwalbe tyres extremely easy to fit, their TL Easy are great.

Aside, have you tried the new GP5K S? They’re way easier to fit than the originals.

  • Zaffiros go on easy enough for me, but I guess it is to do with tyre/rim combination.

  • Agree with@jameo Schwalbe tyres fit really easy .Gp5000 are just tight.

  • thanks all for the tips. went with corsa graphenes in the end for suppleness. hopefully manageable after thinning down the rim tape.
