I'm guessing that you saw this in Oz, probably Victoria, and that this is a Southern Moon Moth (Dasypodia selenophora)

Went to get something out from the car this morning and felt something crawling up my neck when I came inside.

Ran over a big orange and black furry caterpillar up on the moors yesterday. Saw it too late and couldn’t change direction in time. RIP fluffy crawler.

We're getting into the season for galls. These ones are Silk Button Galls on the underside of an Oak leaf. Each one is home to a minute larvae of the gall wasp Neuroterus numismalis.
