Still looking fabulous my friend.

Completely agree, the only problem is the impossibility of buying a steel Rolex at RRP - which means for most peeps that they have to buy grey if they want one, making them subject to the corrections/market forces regardless of their reason for getting it in the first place. It’s definitely a good thing all the grey prices are coming down as hopefully means less and less scalpers out there.

In less golf club worthy chat, the TVB continues to keep my depreciating steel investment off my wrist :) Is Friday the new G-Shock Thursday?

Happy Friday everyone!
This just arrived, an early Tissot Seastar T12 Automatic. Great condition for its age, keeping good time and has a reasonable power reserve but it is a bit bulkier than I expected. Not sure I can justify keeping it 😬

Went into Broadgate Rolex AD a few weeks ago, to put my name down on the list for a Rolex explorer for my 40th next July, for a laugh I also put my name down for the two tone explorer to see how quickly they came up given their frankly extortionate markup over the steel explorer, 3 weeks later I get the call for the two tone 😂 which suggests they not in very high demand, am on holiday so was easy to turn down the two tone, also checked resale and looks like the depreciate pretty fast. So guessing holding value Rolex argument probably only works for the steel models. Saying all that was surprised how nice the two tone explorer is in person, but yeah no way I’m paying that much of a markup over the steel version.

What do we think about the Seiko 5 SRPD79K1?
I had it on a mental list of 'watch I might get next time I have something to celebrate'. I don't have an excuse to purchase anything right now, but it just came up in my local second hand listings for about 120 quid. -

EBay, Kibble watches had a couple with date (Visodate) previously. They are not as common as Seamasters but way cheaper and according to some accounts Tissot’s quality was on a par with Omega’s at that point

Yea I’m not a fan of date complications because it’s unlikely to be worn enough to stay correct.
I quite like my manual Seastar. May be the case shape but it wears better than the Omegas I’ve owned and sold on. Like you say, a fraction of the price.

If you like the looks, then I'd say the price is ok, and it's different. If you are a modder, then it has potential https://youtu.be/kQwYgZSaiSo?si=Yu2c8ryBD15c003w&t=449

Finally bit the bullet and paid the £100 for a Weishi 1000. Couldn’t face the extra for the 1900 no matter how much I tried to convince myself.
Will do all the neurotic testings on every watch when it arrives.
That’s what a correction looks like. I’m talking about buying at retail. Steel Rolex is pretty much the only thing that has, over time, consistently demonstrated that it can hold its value from new and it’s still doing that.
Speculation / investment / hype stuff is a totally separate discussion. I wouldn’t get involved in any of that, especially in the current market conditions.
