  • Could you buy a basic one and the tool to swap the bearings out? Means you have bearing replacement capability and you can replace with a decent bearing when you need to. I run a BSA30 and only the NDS ever needs replacing so my Amazon bearing tool has come in very handy.

  • I have used several 12 speed chains on 11 speed cassettes and chainrings - both double and narrow wide without any problems

They have all been shimano chains some deore and some 105

My understanding is that the inner width remains the same but the plate width is thinner, so should sit on 11 speed teeth fine

  • I can't remember, I'd have to look through my Drawer of Random BBs.

I'm sure you can get 3D24 still, I see them pop up on here or ebay.

  • That was my understanding too, but it didn’t work. 🤷‍♂️

  • The frame is 24mm screw in, so bearing replacement is trivial. The problem is that I can’t find a rotor 24mm crank - but there are lots of rotor 30mm cranks on eBay. However I’d need bsa30 bearings - easy to fit, but expensive and probably less reliable.

  • Yeah, I’ve been looking for about a month. Occasionally new one at ~250 quid which isn’t happening, or silly arm lengths. Haven’t seen a 172.5 compact yet

  • I used a SRAM flat top 12s chain on Shimano 11s chainrings for 15k km and it was fine, if a little noisier

  • I was saying replacing the BSA30 bearing, not the whole threadfit BB. The actual bearings themselves are 71806.

  • Ah, got you, sorry.

  • That’s a SRAM feature

  • Yeah, I swapped the bearings out a few times before moving to upgrading the whole lot with the Wheels Mfg option.

My notes say 6806 2rs lld

    No, my order history says:

4 x SKF 618062RS1 Rubber Sealed Thin Section Deep Groove Ball Bearing 30x42x7mm (61806-2RS1-SKF) = ÂŁ75.28 which I think are the 30mm BB bearings.

  • Yep, 61806 and 71806 have the same dimensions, not sure what the difference is, maybe the seals.

  • Could be or could be the "AC-ness"?

"71806-LLB ABEC5 Enduro Angular Contact Bike Bearing 30x42x7. Angular Contact (A/C) cartridge bearings are specifically designed for hubs. In standard radial bearings, only 3 or 4 balls make contact during the load, at any given time. In Angular Contact (A/C) bearings, ALL balls are engaged"

  • This is a gbj_tester question if ever the forum posed one

  • Could be or could be the "AC-ness"?

It is. 61xxx bearings a deep grove bearings (maaaaaan) and 71xxx are angular contact bearings.

  • I can't say I will sleep better knowing this but I can say it's a little satisfying.

  • how well would you say that worked? i'm considering it but really would like shifting to be better than mechanical xtr if i do so.

  • Worked fine. I'll probably buy my own AXS. Mostly it was about removing thumb fatigue. Sounds stupid, but I'd do 12hr+ MTB rides and the most painful thing on my body was my thumb/hand/wrist from shifting. If I stick aerobars on the thing for TD, AXS will make that a lot easier too.

  • i don't think it is stupid i do the same stuff and the same problems

  • If you can afford it, then I would recommend it. I've not done a long term test but it has worked for @skinny and I used it for Gran Vertical where it worked well. I'm still annoyed Shimano haven't propagated Di2 down for MTBs but here we are contemplating SRAM bits.

  • Personally I found the shifting on axs to be great, every shift is just as good as the first (component wear aside) I got the GX and it's been durable.

  • Does anyone have real world experience of friction shifting with 12 speed Sram Eagle GX? I'm fed up of trying to get this indexed to work all across the cassette! Hanger is straight, new cables etc.

    Looking at microshift thumb shifter.

  • B screw in the right place? It's further out than what you'd normally do, there should be an indicator line on the back of the mech looking through the wheel.

  • Maybe cause it's a thousand quid, eh
