Intelligent design only came about because of the Theory of Evolution and the stack load of evidence that was discovered to support it.
It was deliberately conjured up to try to combat the science.

The argument from design, which owing to the many variations is really a family of arguments, has been around for a lot longer.

I think Intelligent Design as a political movement and belief in a teleological guiding force behind evolution are not easily distinguishable to people not steeped in the debate, so might want to nuance your points slightly, unless your intention is to assert that anyone who believes in some form of creator God (within or without evolution as we currently understand it) is an idiot in which case I have nothing further to say
