Margot the 9 week old terrier/cocker “rescue” pup had flea treatment on tues and I’m combing her multiple times a day. Concerned that I’m still getting live fleas off her - if significant fewer than the first 48 hours. She’s absolutely filthy and the amount of dried blood, eggs, dead and live fleas and their black filth that is still coming out of her coat is heartbreaking. I really want to bathe her but guidance says no flea bath until 12 weeks and the treatment said no bath for a week after… what do we think? Are there any 9 week old puppy safe flea shampoos? Can I take her back for a re-up of flea treatment? I’m guessing not.
In positive news, Margot is starting to come to life and I’m no longer worried she’s gonna die in the night. She’s eating, sleeping and pooping better and has started to play and cause mischief. She is already a very different animal to the tiny weak thing that arrived 4 days ago.
In unbelievably horrific news, the chaotic alcoholic relative we “rescued” Margot from on Monday, was found dead on Wednesday. We don’t know what happened but really hoping the transaction didn’t play a part. My wife is in bits with a mess of emotions… and dealing with a poorly, smelly and flea-ridden pup whilst processing that isn’t making today easier.
