I have used several 12 speed chains on 11 speed cassettes and chainrings - both double and narrow wide without any problems
They have all been shimano chains some deore and some 105
My understanding is that the inner width remains the same but the plate width is thinner, so should sit on 11 speed teeth fine

I’ve only got Shimano 12 speed, so no real world experience.
I have just tried to use a (slightly) worn 11-speed chainring with a 12-speed chain and it was a non-starter. The chain will only sit on top of the teeth and won’t properly engage.
