It was just outside the warranty period. Rather than going through the warranty section on the website I started a chat on the website and did it that way.
They asked for the IMEI and pictures of each side of the phone and then I got an email a day later saying they were sending a replacement and not to bother returning the old one.

Usually things like battery swelling for such a relatively new phone is a safety issue caused by a manufacturing defect likely present when it was made and when you bought it, this is covered under Consumer Rights Act 2015, usually manufacturers will fix it without you having to push them. But regardless they're not doing you a favour out of the goodness of their heart, they know legally they are liable and have to repair or replace it.
Some companies/ retailers just need more prodding than others

The same thing happened to my Pixel 6. Out of interest were you still in the warranty period for Google to replace it?
