One thing I'd say is once you remove mature established plants they're gone. Obviously for a cost you can buy mature plants, but the existing ones will be there because they do well.
If it's maintaince, have you thought about a gardener?
One of our friends have an established garden and they're not really into gardening so have a gardener who does the work. At a lower end of the scale our neighbours, who do bits of gardening, have someone who comes and does their hedges and a bit of pruning.
From that your garden made perfect show a common theme I noticed was only 10% of the budget went on plants. If you're doing what basically amounts to building work then it = building costs. Maybe pm Colin The Bald (Idk whether the underscore or joined up is the right one).
We've been thinking about re-doing our garden and replacing the existing 'log cabin' with something more fit for purpose as I work from home. Having purpose built storage indoors has been great so that would be something we'd want in the garden and a better cooking/dining setup. Also need it to be a little more child friendly and low maintenance as currently it's fairly mature and I cba with some of the upkeeep. It's a reasonable size garden at about 18m x 22m. I have been getting some quotes and it would seem much like building prices gardens are also pretty expensive! That said I think we will get on with it and feels like something we might be able to stage out to help a little with the cost...
