Yeah, of course - etched, and probably re-anodised, with the black dye, which would only affect the etched bits; simple. Not quite as fancy as some of the stuff Shimano's done with Dura-Ace; the two-tone job on 9000 was pretty nifty, along with the crazy fade on 9100 chainring and hubs.
It'd be nice to see more cool stuff done with aluminium anodising; there's some impressive work in the paintball scene, and some really beautiful work on Ti bike frames here and there...
If acetone did nothing, it's probably in the anodising, which would be impressive
