I don’t think he died at the race, I think he felt unwell, was rescued, taken to hospital possibly having a heart attack and died later. Nobody we spoke to in the race was aware there had been an issue or had even seen anyone be rescued, though it was hard to see and very busy.
These things do happen in races unfortunately but it was good to know that all the precautions in place worked as well as they could.

wow that sounds horrific... I'm surprised they didnt stop the race after somebody died in the water?
