  • I used to ride to the start, bust them out and ride home before the sun came up. Ahh, the good old days. The hillier ones we started doing together (Porkers is 5000-5500m, Cambrian one was 7500m) though mean they started taking close to 24hr so yeah a full night ride.

I was just thinking about the least damaging way to get one done. I guess if I just picked a flat one I could still probably hammer it out and be done in say 20hrs and get some sleep.

I was thinking of a modified Jelly Fish Legs but that's closer to 420km and 3500m of climb.

  • Jelly Fish Legs and Dauntsey Dawdle are both nice, but I'd say they both came out closer to 4,000m.

I preferred a midday start for a 400; got a full night's sleep, hammered it and finished around 6am in time to get the first train home before the dozies set it. Didn't even need a 2am Pro Plus!

  • I've done most of Dauntsey though never ridden it properly. JFL was the one I was most keen on but I've also now got a modified Asp&Strawbs route, 434.2 km, 3,040m that has the most amount of "I've not been there before" and it's flatter so might be a better choice. I could probably trim it down a bit, since it's a DIY and I also have a (probably) 2hr train ride to/from the start.
