I kind of like not feeling compelled to check anything any more
You don't obsessively check here? I know I do.

Hope you guys are happy, I've now made a bluesky account, will see how it goes
-
• #1130
Have you found anyway to import follow list?
-
• #1131
Why do you think I got rid of the TV and most of the socials? LFGSS is all I need.

Got to say I'm really liking Bluesky, missing some accounts I used to really like but has enough for me to move over and seems decent numbers of big accounts are now joining daily and the conversations are far better. Also really like the way lists work.

Wow, it's just a copy of twitter
There's even some grumpy andyp git on there. Shit, do I want to mire my life with 'news' again? I'm kind of liking the ignorance is bliss option.

• #1134
It was made by twitter/ Jack originally as an open source version of twitter but then spun off
-
• #1135
Well, I've secured my username and that's about as far as I can be bothered taking it for now.
-
• #1136
Maybe message them and ask them to move

Giving up twitter because bad people use it makes as much sense as giving up telephones. There's still lots of good stuff to read. The idea that my presence helps the wrong 'uns is nonsense. I never see their stuff until it gets into the Guardian. I'm not helping Musk. I don't see any ads and I don't pay him. I don't see why I should let Twitter be exclusively for fascists. The people who argue that the fascists have already won are talking out of their arse.

Bollocks.
Telephones don't interrupt your conversations to shout fascist invective in your face and then use your phone bills to support Trump and other cuntwombles.
-
• #1139
You may have tweaked (old sense) Twitter to miss ads, but the business model remains the same.
-
• #1140
Mine doesn't do those things. I use it on PC with Chrome and uBlock. No ads. And it's not tweaking, it's just normal life for people with a PC. Musk hasn't tried to stop adblockers, and his algorithms don't force anything on you. If you're offered things you don't want, you just say you don't like them. The algorithm quickly learns not to suggest anything similar. It doesn't even suggest Musk's posts.
The lefties who keep criticising Twitter have stopped going there. They don't know what the content is and they don't seem to know how to use it. The many lefties who actually use it are having a pleasant and beneficial experience without aiding Musk. All we're doing is costing him money for the infrastructure.

Bluesky has gained over a million users including president Lula in the last couple of days with Twitter getting banned in Brazil
Apparently Brazil is the 3rd largest nationality on twitter

Well. I've joined Bluesky* today. Twitter has finally died for me. Next up, Facebook as I'm seeing more and more rightwing bollocks popping up in my feed. More toxic masculinity crap and support for Andrew Tate. None of this shit appeared just a few weeks back. WTF is going on?
*I'm not Brazilian.

• #1144
Would be really interesting if Brazil was the catalyst to push people from twitter. Sort of like covid with remote working.
-
• #1145
Next up, Facebook
Note to anyone thinking of switching to Threads that it's owned by Mark "Secret Meetings With Far Right Figures" Zuckerberg.

Announcement from Twitter Engineering:
Soon we’ll be launching a change to how the block function works.
If your posts are set to public, accounts you have blocked will be able to view them, but they will not be able to engage (like, reply, repost, etc.).

There's a mass post-election migration to Bluesky. It feels like it's reached the tipping point. And there's a Chrome extension which imports all the people you follow. https://www.wikihow.com/Import-Twitter-to-Bluesky

Sounds like the collapse of the Trump vote, or Trumps or Musks imminent bancruptcy and/or imprisonment.

Very possible. But it is a fact that Bluesky has a very warm friendly vibe so far. People are enjoying chatting. It's like the early days of the internet. Like Cix.
For me it was good. 90% of my feed was cyclists and a little bit of tech news. But when that fuckwit took it over, it was time to detach.
