  • Does anyone have a ring doorbell or home security?

Are they any good would you recommend?

We’ve had some unsavoury goings on recently.

  • Have a look in the owning your own home thread from about #61312

I went for a eufy indoor camera. Not perfect but pretty good. The only real downside is at night it just reflects off the dark window so you can't see.

Will probably get an outdoor one, either in addition or as a replacement. As that won't suffer the same issue. It has sound and stuff like that too.

I don't like the idea of ring because of the sound, the company itself, and subscription model.

If you get eufy then soul posted a referral code which takes a bit off.

  • Eufy you say, will check them out.

Similar to yourself I’m not keen on giving Amazon even more of my money. I’ve heard those door bells can be hacked, I’m sure they all can. The noise is annoying too.

  • My NAS Drive has some built in CCTV software that is pretty good, could be an option if you already have one. Can be set to constant record or motion detect.

  • I have a eufy doorbell too. I think its main advantage is that it doesn't need a subscription to work and it also uses "Local AI" to do some basic stuff like alerting you when humans are detected, even if the doorbell isn't pressed (useful round these parts where the delivery people often drop off packages and leg it without letting anyone know).

Downsides I've noticed are: it's often very slow to respond. By the time someone's rung the bell, and the notification has reached your phone, and the app has loaded and started streaming video... the person has long since given up and left. Also, the app sometimes fails to show history, but you can often just refresh the page and it'll load second time around.

  • I have eufy, it was cheap and no subscription. Charging it is a pain and the whole system isn’t quick but perfect for when I’m in the shed working and someone comes, also knowing when people came/ left. I have never tried to talk through it to someone there it’s way too laggy for that. The sound is not distinct which is good, sounds just like a normal wireless bell. The chime comes from the storage unit.

  • Ideally I need 2-3 wireless that constantly record and then can delete at a later date.

  • I think @soul runs theirs on an sd card constantly with it overwritting.

From memory I want to say the 128gb card lasts 10 days.

It's a very economical way to get a set up.

  • That sounds good. Our car got broken into 2 weeks ago. Nothing stolen, a lot of mess made. Weirdly no broken glass or any sign of forced entry. Nearly 10/10 nothing happens round here. It would be useful every now and again to have evidence if we needed it.

There’s been a spate of this type of crime in our area recently.
